School Workshops

We provide free workshops for Mission and Abbotsford schools. Workshops can be held within your school or at our Abbotsford Depot location. Field trips are only available from the beginning of February to the end of November.

Main Workshops

Recycling Basics

Teaches students about curbside recycling in Abbotsford and Mission. Students learn about what happens to their recycling and what it gets made into.

Best suited for students in grades 1-7.
1 hour in class, 1 1/2 hour field trip.*

Kindergarten Basics

Teaches students about the 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Students sort materials into separate waste streams.

Best suited for students in kindergarten or grade one.
45 minutes in class, 1 hour field trip.*

Pre-K Sort

Familiarizes students with sorting waste and identifying the difference between recycling, garbage, and compost.

Best suited for students in pre-school.
30 minutes in class, not offered as a field trip.

Waste of Space

Students are challenged with the problems associated with a society that creates too much garbage. They must come up with solutions to save the planet using the 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Best suited for students in grades 4-7.
1 hour in class, 1 1/2 hour field trip*.

Ready, Set, Compost

Students learn the basics of backyard composting through activities and an interactive presentation.

Best suited for students in grades 2-7.
1 hour in class, 1 1/2 hour field trip.*

Waste Audit

How much of your garbage is actually garbage? Let’s find out by going through the classroom garbage bin!

Best suited for students in grades 4-9.
1 hour in class, not offered as a field trip.

Reuse Tinkerers

Arts & Crafts time! Students will bring in an object destined for the recycle bin and fashion it into something new.

Best suited for students in grades 1-7.
1 hour in class, not offered as a fieldtrip.

Paper Making

Students make new paper from old – they actually do the recycling!

Best suited for students in grades 2-7.
1 hour in class; not offered as a field trip

Middle School and High School

Presentations are available for students on the following topics:
